Business Weekly Spotlight: Discount Movers

I told you I was gonna make it a regular thing.....

This week, a random name drawn from a hat, is about 'Discount Movers'. Based in Lompoc, CA this company provides general residential and commercial moving and hauling services. The top contract with Discount Movers is with the Sears retail stores out of Northern Santa Barbara County, calling for moving of durable goods such as home appliances and the like.

Paul Hernandez (son, brother, uncle, Tommy's and Johnny's dad) has been running the company for several years now. At last check, business was good... very good. Paul has several people he uses on a per-job basis, has his own truck and trailer and operates his business with professionalism and a familiarity with his customers.

As I said in the first column about business and finances, we're trying to highlight some successes in our family. So far, so good for Paul and Discount Movers.

Here's a pic of Paul, Tommy, Johnny, and Lucy's son Junior (click for pic).

No News Is Good News?

Well, it's been a while, and there's nothing new to report.

You would think that in a family as large as ours, news would be coming out every day. Truth be told, there has been more news, but like I said before-- no chisme.

We'll leave the gossip to others. In the mean time, spread the word about the blog. I need more info, and I know y'all are up to something.

Peace.

Financial Gains

Today's Post is a Commentary, the first of what I hope to be a series on our Family's success.

So here we go....

One of the ways we can make sure our family improves and grows is to start building. I don't mean cement, wood, bricks and the like. I mean building up our financial worth, our standing in business, and the wealth that can keep us afloat in good times and in bad. This isn't to say we should neglect personal and emotional growth. On the contrary-- gaining in financial well-being is one sign of maturity.

I have heard, in the last few days, that one of our cousins is in the process of buying property. This cousin already has an idea of what he/she wants to do: that's the goal setting. This cousin already has a plan for gaining pre-approval and getting the funding necessary to buy property: that's the planning. I heard, also, that this cousin went to meet with a few people to begin the process: that's the action.

The three steps to making things happen. This is the way it should be done. Dream Boards, Lists of Goals, talking to each other to share ideas and get feedback on how to bring these things about-- these are what we should all be doing now, and updating as things change. And there are so many of us that helping each other act, helping each other do, helping each other move along the path to success... There's no reason why each one of us shouldn't be living comfortably, there's every reason why we should all be in the midst of financial growth.

So while we are all continuing personal growth, and strive toward emotional strength, let's all start to think of ways to fatten the wallets a little, and increase our net worth.

I Wonder If.....

..... She was being asked 2 questions at the same time.

"What will you be naming the baby, Mr. and Mrs. Cook?"

"What would you like for breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. Cook?"

Cuz somehow we ended up with a cousin named Papas!

Kidding!

Happy Birthday, Papas!

Third Sunday Breakfast

Afternoon, y'all.

This is just a little tidbit about the Third Sunday Breakfasts we have at the Mesa Cafe. In case you don't already know, we started this on the Sunday after Uncle Bob went to Heaven. It was a reason to get together as Cousins, and we have done it every month since. Here's a pic of us on that first Third Sunday (click for pic).

We have a lot of fun when we get together. Just the cousins, none of the Aunties or Uncles. It makes you wonder why we don't gather like that more often. In any case, the invitations are open-- I will go every Third Sunday to get a table, and I'll be eating no matter if it's just me or if it's 40 of us. You're not obligated, but know that it's fun and helps remind us about the importance of family.

You can find the date, time, and address for the Mesa Cafe in the Calendar (under 'Links' in the column on the right). If you go to the Calendar, and click on 'Third Sunday Breakfast', you will be able to see the information about it, and you will see the word 'map'. If you click on 'map' you will see the exact location and can get directions if you need.

Every Third Sunday, 10am, Mesa Cafe.

REMINDER: the breakfast for this month was rescheduled for this Sunday, July 22 at 10:15.

Birthdays

Okay, everyone. I did what I could, but I still need some help.

If you look at the Calendar (see under 'Links' on the right column) you will now see birthdays. I was only able to get 58 of them, and, if I include everyone and the in-laws, it comes to over 100 people. So, even after counting for the last 2 hours, I'm still barely half-way done.

This is a great way for anyone and everyone to check to see who has a birthday coming up, and to fix your gift budget for the month.

Please, send me an email (look on the right, or just use hernandez.sb@gmail.com) so I can fill in the blanks. If you see any corrections that need to be made, let me know as well.

I can enter in actual parties for each birthday, Ages of the people, locations, etc if that is available. If there are parties and locations, that can be easily mapped from the calendar.

And if you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks for all your help!

A Bigger Famly, Part II

Chris and Renee are having a baby!

Only a few months pregnant, Renee has a due date of February 14, Valentine's Day. What more a symbol of love than the bundle of joy, right folks? And I guess we'll have to dust off that little phrase about "Renee and all her kids".... Kidding!

Here's Alexiana (click for pic), Renee and Chris' first as husband and wife. Who wants to guess what the thighs will look like on the new baby? Seriously, she's adorable!

Though this leads to another issue entirely. Our Family usually numbers its births in 3s. This is one down-- is there anyone else out there expecting right now? Wear your raincoats, men.

Congrats to Renee and Chris!

A Bigger Family, Part I

Leah Hernandez is engaged!

She and her fiance, David (click for photo) visited Santa Barbara over the Fourth of July holiday. So far there are no set plans for a wedding, though a small wedding in Santa Barbara or a ceremony on a cruise have been suggested.

Congratulations to Leah and David.

And Uncle Vic and Auntie Gina, how's your wallet these days?

Just kidding.

Zaca Fire

Most of us know that our cousin Eric Garcia is a firefighter.

On July 4, a fire was accidentally started near Zaca Lake (click for map) and has burned over 30,000 acres, an equivalent to 43 square miles (by contrast, the city of Santa Barbara, which extends from Montecito to La Cumbre and jumps to include the airport, covers 43.1 square miles). This past week, the Federal Government took command of the firefighting operations. Click here for details on the Zaca Fire.

Eric has been up there virtually the entire time, part of the 1,600+ people fighting the fire. Word is he may be there until August. He came home for 24 hours this past week, and it just so happens that today, July 19, is Eric's 42nd birthday.

Fighting a wildfire can be a dangerous thing, and we have faith that Eric's training and experience, as well as the commanders in charge, keep him safe. In any case, hold him and the other firefighters in your prayers, and save some for Liz and the kids, and the rest of his family.

Okay Folks....

So, here it is. As it says on the right, at the top, this is gonna be an informational website. i will be communicating with the Hubs (Monica, Gramma Connie, Dolly, etc) to find out what's going on, what's new, what's there to celebrate. The gossip won't be here, and neither will rumors. That's private. I will only write here what the individuals themselves want others to know, and I will confirm that with them.

The most recent information will be at the top, and there are some other things to look at on the right column--Contact Info, a Poll that changes every so often, Links to Pictures and a Calendar of Events, etc.

If you have anything new to note, let me know and I'll put it up.

Also, I will be looking to do a newsletter that will have much of the same information as this site. The newsletter will be printed and sent out at least once a month. Of course, the blog here will be up-to-date and will likely have more information than the newsletter, and that's because of the costs of designing-printing-mailing the paper copy.

Let me know if you'd rather have the paper copy, or if you're just fine with reading this blog whenever you go online. And if anything, read it so you can tell the Aunts and Uncles who don't go online what the latest is.

I'll try to post some news I just found out about in a note tomorrow morning.
